Description

This is the resident dog at B's Barber Shop in Bakirkoy, Istanbul.  I didn't catch his name but I'll definitely be going back for another cut.  It's always a unique experience going for a cut in Turkey. The man who cut my hair is about 30ish and has tattoos all over his arms and a thick head of cropped but floppy curly dark hair (which is unusual a style here, for a Turkish man).  Like many Turkish people though, he's a friendly and gentlemanly man.  His name is Tuana, which he told me to pronounce just like Tuna :)

Similar to the previous stylist I went to in Ulus, I found him super professional, partially fluent in English, and, not only cutting my hair the way I wished to have it cut, i.e. not too short, but trimming my eyebrows....my nose hairs...and in addition to cleaning out my ears with cotton, he took a lighter, yes, a flame!, to my ears several times, and burnt off any hairs that I was unawares of?  :):)   He said that was shaving Turkish style :).  I had no idea what he was doing, but he was recommended by a colleague and so, aside from scrunching my face to suck up impending ear pain, I sat quite calmly :)  But there was no pain.  Still, it was one of the most unusual moments of my life. :)

I'm not particularly hairy btw. In fact I'm probably the least hairy fella you could meet, other than my wavy brown hair. But the Turkish way is the coiffed way.  Most men here have close cropped haircuts and excellent beard lines, usually only a day old.  There's a refined look to most Turkish men.  So I was surprised Tuana didn't chop all my hair off :).

What a lovely dog. Also an interesting insight into the Turkish culture through the way they carry out hairstyling and ear cleaning as well.
